Tenuous Convergence

Barely more than 2 weeks remain between now and my (re)planned launch date of July 4th. There's still a lot to do, but i can at last see how the final pieces are lining up for completion.

On the mechanical front, i've identified more material (mostly photos) that i'll need, and have engaged the folks helping me out toward the end of wrapping things up. The remaining list of details is starting to look reasonable, and i'm trying to pad in some time for the items i'll inevitably find out i didn't think of.

The biggest piece, of course, is the video. For awhile, i had a hard time wrapping my mind around how best to tackle this one. Fortunately, weekend before last, i hit upon a helpful realization: my latest storyboard really didn't need to contain any shots that required synched video and audio. This handy fact enabled me to focus on each independently.

With that in mind, i took a few rare hours of solo time at the house, rigged up a makeshift voiceover setup, and cut together a full soundtrack for the piece. After a few listens by myself and others, i was able to tweak a few things and get to what i believe is a final cut.

That done, i now turn much of my remaining two weekends of time to video shooting and editing. That should be the bulk of what remains. ... or so i hope. :)

As a nice bonus, there's been a little more musical fun mixed in. Over the past two weeks, i used some train time to hammer out final lyrics to a tune i actually started writing over 10 years ago. The song is a humorous-but-sincere nigh-unto-bluegrassy maniacally upbeat little ditty called "Flamethrower". I'll leave it at that for now, but i'm definitely looking forward to roughing this one up as soon as i get this launch over with.

... which, in general, expresses about where i am with this project at this point: let's get this launch done already so we can get to some music!
